Inspired by the art and culture of India, thus begins 'Ganesha and the Mango', a fully animated, original short from animator Brian Schmoyer.
It is told, one day Siva, high god and balancer of chaos and order, was greeted by his eternal lover Parvati whom was bearing a single, most perfect mango. However, it seems that an argument had erupted between their two sons, the quick and sly Murugan and the dumpy but wise elephant-headed Ganesha over who should receive this perfect fruit.
Deciding to settle the arguement with a competition, Siva declares a race. 'The first one to run around the world... shall win the mango.' Hasting no waste, the quick Murugan was off, sprinting around the world, leaving his slower brother behind. But? Will speed win this race?
Completed in the winter of 2002 after a full year of production, 'Ganesha and the Mango' blows away all my records with over 2,200 drawn images, 12 background locations, and four animated characters (one with four arms) to create a full seven and a half minute short. To create a much more cleaner refined for 'Mango' I have inked, scanned and digitally colored each frame of the film keeping the very bright and colorful color scheme inspired by the historic prints of India.
